Opportunities at Goddard Space Flight Center
The NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center's Exploration of the Universe Division seeks an outstanding scientist to join the INTEGRAL Guest Investigator Facility staff. An opening is anticipated beginning in the summer or fall of 2006, under the soon-to-be-established Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science and Technology (CRESST). The US INTEGRAL Guest Investigator Facility is responsible for providing various aspects of Guest Observer support to US participants in the European Space Agency's INTEGRAL mission. Duties for the successful applicant are expected to include data quality assessment and archiving, development and maintenance of online catalogs and web services, education and public outreach, technical and scientific support to Guest Observers, and independent scientific research pertaining to the INTEGRAL mission. The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in astrophysics or a closely related field, and have a record of scientific accomplishment documented by journal publications. He or she must work well as a member of a scientific R&D team. Previous experience with the analysis and interpretation of INTEGRAL or other gamma-ray astrophysics data is highly desirable. Excellent computational and communication skills are also considered to be a significant plus. Salary is competitive, based on experience, and excellent fringe benefits are offered.
